Silence of the Wolves Winners

Open Voting winners are:

Judges' choice:

Congratulations to all!

What the Judges had to say:

Nolebucgrl about the Judges' choice: I selected this story because we suffered through Leah's lack of relationship and finally she got an imprint of her own. Just as she was working up the nerve to tell him about herself, tragedy struck. It was heartbreaking and really spoke to me as a reader.

Frenchbeanz about the Judges' choice: This was my pick for a whole swag of reasons. The missing pieces from canon are so well written, very believable. There is a constant underlying feel of how tragic Leah’s past is but then we’re given hope. The author has also taken a very unlikely pairing and not only made it plausible, but made us care for the outcome. You feel for Leah and you want everything to work out. And then there’s the ending . . . but you’re gonna have to read that yourselves. Overall, it’s a really well thought out story that drew me in and held me there, and even made me sympathetic to the wolves.

and Frenchbeanz about Who Killed Jacob Black: This story took a couple of reads for me to really appreciate it. It’s short, but within those few words, there is a lot to understand. There are two perspectives: the author’s and Billy Black’s. Billy Black is her character and is seeking revenge for Jacob’s death. Sounds odd? Yeah, it is, but this is what makes the story so unique. I truly enjoyed the unusual structure, something I’ve never come across before. And it is just . . . really well written. It's one thing to have an idea like this but quite another to convey it as well as they have. A very close second for me.

Thank you for participating. And as a treat for all those who want it, here's a link to a lovely wallpaper I found:

Three Brother Wolves from Denali in different sizes in here.

It's been fun.

Semi-coherent Ramblings of a Contest Host: About the Contest Header

I received the first candidates for contest entries few days ago and I noticed something I hadn't even thought before. Let's recap:

For every Silence of the Wolves Contest entry we ask that you use this header:

Silence of the Wolves Contest

Title:
Author:

Author's homepage:
Main Players:
Disclaimer:

To see other Contest entries, please visit the Contest's FanFiction page:

http://www(.)fanfiction(.)net/u/2269000/Silence_of_the_Wolves

Most of this makes sense like the story title, author's pen name, character details and disclaimers. But why are we asking you to add the the link to the contest profile when each and every anonymous contest entry will be posted under that same profile? It's quite easy to find other entries by just clicking the FanFiction.Net author name (or in this case the contest profile name) to find the other fics.

There's a point to this, believe it or not.

1) Not everyone who reads these fics know how the contest works. It's simply polite to provide the link for them.

2) After the contest you'll be able to post your entries on whichever site you want and it'll guide people so inclined to other similar fics they might have been looking for.

3) After the contest should you post these stories under your own profile at FanFiction.Net, the header will let people know you're not plagiarizing work of others. I've read that this has been a problem for other contests in the past and we want to avoid this problem. I admit, the phrasing could have been better, but it's too late to change it now. Maybe after the contest, but not now.

Incidentally, we are asking for the author's homepage to be included for the same reason. Not everyone wants to post their stories on FanFiction.Net. After the contest, I plan on compiling a list to help people locate the authors of the individual fics entered in our contest.

Contest Information

Have you ever wanted to attack the pack? Did you think Edward should have killed Jacob when he kissed Bella? Did you want to see Paul mauled beyond recognition? Did you feel that Leah should have gone "Fatal Attraction" on Sam after he left her for Emily? Or maybe you wish that the vamps and wolves had gone to war?

Here's your chance to silence one or more of the wolves. Your one shot can be angsty, ironic, happy or humorous, the only requirement is there be some wolf's (wolves') blood spilled. It doesn't matter if they're in wolf or human form at the time of their death, just make sure it's a member of the pack.

Rules and Guidelines:

The contest will be anonymous.

Entries can be canon, AU, AH or any genre of your choosing. Entries must be M-rated, that means all authors must be adults.

Entries must feature the death. Fair game for killing are the members of the wolf pack and their imprinted mates that includes Nessie and Emily, but not Bella.

No rape or incest. You can have a justifiable killing without those elements.

Length of the entry must be between 2,000 and 15,000 words.

Collaborations are accepted. Limit of two entries per author or collaboration group.

Entries must be new material, stand alone as one shots, and may not be expanded until the winners have been announced.

Entries must fulfil the basic grammar qualifications, so use a beta.
